POETICS OF PLACE

Place is a concept that can be seen, felt and comprehended in a variety of forms. How we relate to and formulate an experience of place deals with complex interactions between personal, political, and cultural histories. e way individuals and groups contextualize the idea of place is fluid and fabricated, but often feels or appears rigid and innate. Poetics of Place features the work of artists Richard Martinez, Juventino Aranda, Reinaldo Gil Zambrano, Jennifer Acevedo, Joel Gaytan, Davin Diaz, and Roberto C. Paquini. Theese artists, while diverse in practice, style, and subject matter, all draw from their experiences as latinx individuals to develop discourse around conflict, tension, and belonging.

Poetics of Place at Clyde and Mary Harris Gallery at Walla Walla University in College Place, WA was created collaboration with Walla Walla University’s Department of Art, the Wilma Hepker School of Social Work and Sociology, and Latinx Employees and the in honor and celebration of National Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month.
