Being I, Being We is a series investigating the duality of the individual and the collective. The use of found imagery and written words paired with thread aims to position the viewer in a relationship of familiarity and obscurity simultaneously. The preexisting written notes and carefully extracted ephemeral images altered with thread have no apparent personal connections to the artist or the viewer allowing for sensations of isolation and obscurity. Concurrently the pieces also construct a sense of collective knowing as individuals recognize and acknowledge similarities in their own histories and experiences.

Thread is used throughout Being I, Being We as a representation of connectedness, power and fragility. Many cultures and myths use thread or string as a metaphor for life. String is a volatile object that can be cut, broken, tangled, knotted, and stitched. There is grandeur in the simplicity of string to be both powerful and vulnerable.  Similarly life is composed of complex and curious entanglements, cuts and ties between past, present, and future experiences.
